Getting Your Word Out—From Submission to Publication (single session) with Holly Day

Anybody can write, but it takes a special type of determination to see your work through to print. In this workshop, we’ll discuss proper manuscript formatting for poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction book manuscripts, and go on to discuss market lists, deciphering writer’s guidelines, dealing with rejection and rejoicing in seeing your work in print. We'll also talk about basic marketing techniques, including how to find places to review your books, how to set up interviews for yourself, and how to set up book signings.


Holly Day has worked as a freelance writer and editor for more than 25 years, with over 7,000 published articles, poems, and short stories and 10 published books, including Insider's Guide to the Twin Cities, Walking Twin Cities, Music Theory for Dummies. Her writing has been nominated for a National Magazine Award, a 49th Parallel Prize, an Isaac Asimov Award, six Pushcart awards, and three Dzanc Book's Best of the Web awards. She is the recipient of two Midwest Writers Grants, a Plainsongs Award, and the 2011 Sam Ragan Prize for Poetry. She teaches writing classes for children and adults at The Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
